A morning of cultural discovery awaits as you set off with your private guide to discover the rich diversity of Phuket, visiting a number of local communities and gaining insight into their lifestyles.

Start with a visit to Siray Island where you will meet the Moken people, also known as the ‘sea gypsies’. The Moken are animist and live solely off fishing. Take a walk around the village, meeting the locals and discovering their ways of life from your guide. From here continue to a local Muslim neighbourhood on the east coast of the island. Visit a mosque and learn about Phuket’s Muslim community, which makes up approximately 25% of Phuket’s population. A stop will also be made at a local shop to sample roti (sweet bread), a dish reflective of this community. Next visit the Kathu district, home to the oldest Chinese shrine on the island. Spend time here and learn about Phuket’s tin mining industry which brought Chinese migrants to the island in the 18th century. See how this community has held onto its rich traditions and try some Hokkien Noodle Soup, the most popular local dish.
